Idaho Resources & jobs

In 2017 Jim Petersen of Dalton Gardens, Idaho who is the founder and president of the nonprofit Evergreen Foundation wrote in a paper titled A House on Fire “If 555 million cubic feet of timber that die annually in Idaho could instead be harvested, it would generate more than 24,000 new wood processing jobs—some three times current employment.”

In addition, by managing our natural resources, we could increase the health of our Idaho forest and reduce forest fires. Apparently, there is little trust between the conservation community and those who want to safely use our natural resources sustainably.

As your State Senator- District 3, I will work to re-establish trust between these communities so that we can cultivate and protect the resources Idaho is blessed with without exploiting them.  I will also work with our federal congressional representatives on the passage of the Resilient Federal Forests Act, which will put more control of forestry management in the hands of the State of Idaho.
